For Those Who Dare to Dream

she found herself slowly,

for she had plenty of time to look

and she thought to herself,

“How brave I must be

for I began again.”

as she spoke

a little girl

began to dream

Author’s Note: I created this blackout poem from an excerpt of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The poem represents the strong women who are creating names for themselves and setting an example for a new generation of little girls with big dreams. It was inspired by Kamala Harris’ recent election as the first female, first South Asian and first Black Vice President of the United States, as well as her statement: “While I may be the first, I won’t be the last.”
